The Safariland model and part numbers identify products, and the numbers evolve as new products and mechanisms come to market. The part numbers for holsters contain all the information needed to identify and place an order. It’s really important to get all of the numbers correct, so that you receive the right holster. Below is information on how to decode the model and part numbers.

Note: Bianchi® holsters have a different numbering system. To determine which gun models fit Bianchi holsters, reference the Bianchi Fit Group numbers in the Bianchi Order Guide.

The first set of numbers in the holster code refers to the holster model number, ride height, and optics (if included).

Model Number

Safariland 6000 Series Holsters
The 6000 series are built by thermoforming, utilizing a Kydex-type material called Boltaron, which is a proprietary thermoplastic alloy that is formed to the exact weapon fit. This material is much more durable than what you will find in other Kydex-style holsters. The 6000 series models are built using a specialized forming tool. You can tell which model you are looking at by the first number on the model series. The first digit of the model number denotes the series. For example, the Model 6390 is part of the 6000 series.

Safariland 7000 Series Holsters
The newest holster line is the 7000 series, commonly called 7TS™ series holsters. The holsters are mold injected from an advanced polymer blend, SafariSeven™, which is structurally sound and non-abrasive to the gun’s finish. The first digit of the model number denotes the series. For example, a Model 7390 is part of the 7000 series.

Ride Height
The last digit at the end of the model number indicates the ride height. Mid-ride is the most common and is assigned the number “0”. A Hi-ride belt is a (2), and the Low-ride belt is a (5). These codes apply to Safariland duty holsters only. Tactical holsters have a (4) or (5) designation for a vertical leg strap or vertical leg strap with quick release.

Optics
A current leap in technology has added another coding possibility that can follow the first four digits in the model number. “DO” was the first and stands for Doctor Optic, as in the 6354DO that so many are familiar with. As the slide-mounted optic has come into vogue, this holster was modified by many to fit their optic holster needs. Since that time, a new type of optic box was invented to cover a much wider variety of optics. The new designation is RDS (Red Dot Sight), and it can be found on an ever-expanding list of holster choices. You will see this in the 6390RDS, 6360RDS, 6377RDS, 6384RDS, and so on. There are now also the new 7TS injection-molded optic sight holsters, and they follow the same pattern 7390RDS.

The second set of numbers in the holster code is the center code and refers to the gun and light/laser combination.

CENTER CODES

This code can have as few as two numbers and as many as six. We’ll start with the most common numbers, with some examples for reference. Be advised; this list is continually growing.

You can see that this list of codes is built on a basic number set. That is often the case, but there isn’t a specific set of criteria that governs the development of the sequences for a pistol type. When the Sig P320 came out, it was designated as a -450- for the full size. Then the compact was identified as -750-. These codes are developed as they are needed, and it usually takes a practiced eye to read them.

Following the gun code numbers will be the light code. The common Safariland light-compatible holster is designated as (2). This is a multi-fit light-compatible holster, meaning that it fits a variety of lights.

So, to develop the code with a light, you add the light designation to the gun code. Example: A Glock 17/22 has the code -832- (-8325- Gen 5 version), A Glock 19/23 would be -2832- (-28325-) and so on. A Glock 19/23 with a compact light is -28327-.

The code for a Tactical Version of the holster, and the ability to mount a leg shroud or use the QAS system, you would add a (3) at the end of the gun code and the light code.

The third set of numbers is the color/finish/hand code.

FINISH CODES

The color/finish code is usually the first two digits, but in some cases can be just one. A popular code is (41), which stands for Plain Black. This is a color available in both the 6000 and 7000 series holsters.

Right Hand, Left Hand or Ambidextrous
The last digit of Safariland’s holster part numbers denotes the hand code. Holsters are available in both right and left hand versions and some are ambidextrous, so there are three variations.

1 — Right
2 — Left
3 — Ambidextrous

If there is a fourth set of numbers, it refers to a non-standard sized belt width.

BELT width SIZE

The standard size belt width slot fits belts of 2.25”, the size of most thicker duty belts. Since it’s the most common size and comes standard, the number (225) isn’t added to the code. However, if you’re looking for a different belt loop size, then the number would be added to the code, such as the digit (2) for a belt width size of 2”. Example: 7390-2832-411-2

Now you can see there’s a method behind the part numbers, and, most importantly, that being off one number can mean getting the wrong holster by either model, fit, color, or hand choice. It’s well worth your time to do a little research before you place an order, because it’s always better to get it right the first time.
